The higher technical college in Wels with approx. 1700 students and approx. 180 teachers is a higher technical college in Wels in Upper Austria and, with its five departments, offers the possibility of a wide range of engineering and technician training. The school was founded in 1971 and has day and evening schools.

Forms of training

Higher department

The five-year training at the higher department offers practice and theory-oriented training at a higher level, which is completed with the Matura (university entrance qualification). After three years of relevant professional experience, the professional title of engineer can be used.

Technical school

The training period is usually four years, with the practical skills of related apprenticeships and theoretical knowledge being imparted at an intermediate level. The qualification of the technical schools usually replaces some related vocational apprenticeships and trade licenses, in the final year a final examination is taken.

Departments

Day school

  • Higher department for chemical engineering (chemical engineers with a focus on chemical industrial engineering)
    • 3 classes per year, a total of 15 classes.
  • Higher department for electrical engineering (energy systems and power electronics, automation and drives)
    • 2 classes per year, a total of 10 classes.
  • Higher department for information technology ( systems engineering )
    • Since 2014, 2 classes per year, a total of 8 classes. From the 3rd grade onwards there is the possibility of leading the class as a “laptop class”. Approx. 30 classrooms are set up for permanent use with laptops.
  • Higher department for mechatronics (automation technology)
    • 3 classes per year, a total of 15 classes.
  • College of Chemistry (Chemical Industrial Engineering)
    • 1 class per year, 4 classes in total.
