Hair setting

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hair setting agents are used for hair care . They are intended to give the hair greater strength and thus better manageability.

Historical

Through cave pictures, researchers were able to find out that hair setting agents were used as early as the Stone Age . At that time, however, these consisted only of mud and fat. In ancient Egypt , Greece and Rome , cosmetic preparations were then combined with oils, waxes and perfumes. In the Renaissance , women then used powder with sticky resins to set their hair. It was not until the 1940s that the hair setting agents known today were produced.

application

In contrast to the hairsprays, however, they are applied to hair that is still damp. The setting agent is applied to the hair without rinsing; When blow-drying, the hairstyle is designed accordingly with brushes and combs.

effect

The film formers ( hydrocolloids ) and conditioning agents contained in the hair setting agent coat the hair surface with a clear, non-sticky film. This makes the hair more dimensionally stable, elastic and easier to style. In addition, the hair gets a silky shine and loses its electrostatic charge.

ingredients

Declaration of the ingredients of a hair setting according to INCI

Most hair setting agents are aqueous-alcoholic solutions ( ethanol , isopropanol , n- propanol ) or aqueous solutions of synthetic resins (vinylpyrrolidone copolymers). In addition, plasticizers are added to give the hair more durability and elasticity later. The wet combability and the increased hair shine are created by the additionally contained film formers (hydrocolloids), conditioning agents ( cationic surfactants or quaternary polymers ), mineral oils or silicone oils . In addition, depending on the intended use, they can contain light stabilizers , optical brighteners and dyes .

Tint setter

It is a hair setting agent with an addition of washable dyes.

Hair dryer lotion

A blow dryer lotion is used when the hair needs to be styled during the drying process. Such products contain cationic polymers as film formers, which give a more stable film than the film formers of conventional hair setting agents.

mousse

Mousse are among the aerosols . Their application and dosage is easier than with a liquid hair setting. Mousse contains special surfactants and propellants .
