The Habasit Holding AG , headquartered in Reinach is an international Swiss manufacturer of drive belts and conveyor belts . The group, which consists of more than 30 subsidiaries, has 16 production sites and agencies in over 70 countries. The group of companies employs more than 3,600 people and in 2013 generated sales of 629.6 million Swiss francs.

history

The company was founded in Basel in 1946 by Fernand Habegger and his future wife Alice Fluck and entered the spindle and machine tape market in 1953. In 1959, the company, which began operating as Habasit AG in 1961, moved from Basel to Reinach. Habasit began its international expansion in 1965 with the establishment of the first foreign subsidiary in Great Britain. Further subsidiaries followed in 1967 in Canada, Spain, Austria, Sweden and the USA, 1968 in Japan, 1972 in Brazil, 1974 in Germany, 1976 in Italy, 1979 in France and 1981 in Norway.

In 1983, Armid drive belts began to be sold, the first adhesive-free, joinable flat belt with Armid traction layer on the market.

In 1985 the group had 738 employees and achieved sales of 130 million francs. In the following year, further subsidiaries in Belgium and the Netherlands were incorporated. In 1992 the company founder Fernand Habegger died.

From the mid-1990s, international expansion accelerated through various takeovers in Switzerland, Italy, the USA, Great Britain, the Far East and China. Company founder Alice Habegger-Fluck (1924–2016) died in 2016.
