Habrophlebia fusca is a species of insect belonging to the order of the mayflies (Ephemeroptera).

Characteristics of the larva

The body is colored brown with black markings, not flattened, round and up to 6 millimeters long. The head is perpendicular in relation to the body axis. The eyes are on the side of the head. The legs do not have a bristle border. There are 7 pairs of tracheal gills . The gills are two-branched. There are 3 thread-like extensions on one branch, about 7 on the other branch. The tail threads have short bristles on both sides and are clearly longer than the body.

Occurrence and way of life

The species occurs all over Europe, with the exception of Norway and Ireland. The habitat of the larvae are spring pools and low-flow, plant-rich flowing waters on the plain. The larvae belong to the creeping type. They rarely swim. Their diet consists of vegetable detritus and plants. The generation period is one year. The flight time of the Imagines runs from April to June. Sub-adults live about 15 hours, adults up to 2 days.
