Hadad-eser

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hadad-Eser ( Hebrew הֲדַדְעֶזֶר hǎdad'æzær , German ' Hadad is help' ) was king of the Aramaic kingdom of Zoba and son of Rehob. So far he is only attested by biblical references where he appears as an opponent of King David and is defeated by him. Accordingly, he lived in the 10th century BC.

According to the 2nd book of Samuel , Hadad-Eser formed a coalition with the Ammonites against David, but this was defeated ( 2 Sam 8,3-4  EU ). After this defeat, Aram-Damascus in particular rose to become a supra-regional center of power.

In 1 Kings 11:23  EU it is reported that Reson, the son of Eljada, fled from him, became the leader of a free band and finally ruled Damascus.
