The Port of Cape Town ( Engl. Port of Cape Town ) is a seaport in the Republic of South Africa and is located in Table Bay on the northwestern outskirts of Cape Town on the Atlantic Ocean .
The operator and administrator is the Transnet National Ports Authority .
history
The history of the port goes back to the Dutch East India Company . The company built the Victoria and Alfred Basins in 1652, previously the bay was an anchorage. The Victoria & Alfred Waterfront is Cape Town's historically preserved harbor district.
Economical meaning
General cargo, bulk cargo, raw materials and containers are handled in the port. It is also a fishing and cruise port and a marina . Most of the country's fruit is exported through the port.
