The Port of Rotterdam ( Dutch Port of Rotterdam Authority NV ; English Port Authority ) is responsible for the management, operation and further development of the Rotterdam port and industrial area responsible.

history

The Port of Rotterdam Company emerged from a municipal body of the city of Rotterdam founded in 1932 and has around 1,200 employees. On January 1, 2004, the municipal port authority (Dutch: Gemeentelijk Havenbedrijf Rotterdam) was privatized. The Port of Rotterdam Authority has two shareholders: the city of Rotterdam and the Dutch state.

Every year around 33,000 seagoing vessels and 110,000 inland waterway vessels visit the port of Rotterdam. The company uses a modern radar system, patrol boats and inspectors to handle these ship movements . a. monitor the transport of dangerous substances. The city of Rotterdam is planning the future of the port together with the Port of Rotterdam Authority. Framework plans have already been drawn up for this.

According to the statutes, the port company pursues two goals:

  • Promotion of effective, safe and efficient handling of shipping traffic in the port of Rotterdam and the port of call off the coast
  • Development, expansion, management and operation of the port of Rotterdam

  • Port company Rotterdam: 1,200 employees, turnover approx. 500 million euros
  • Port area: approx. 10,500 ha (including 5,000 ha industrial area, 5,500 ha water, tracks, roads and pipeline routes). The port will grow by  20% with the construction of Maasvlakte 2. The length of the port area is approx. 40 km.
  • Direct employment volume: a good 90,000 jobs
  • Cargo handling: approx. 400 million tons of goods per year
  • Shipping: approx. 33,000 ocean-going vessels and 110,000 inland waterways per year
