Hafenstrasse 8 (Stralsund)

Hafenstraße 8 is the postal address of a former warehouse, also known as Speicher I or Türmchenspeicher , which is under monument protection in Hafenstraße on the Stralsund harbor island.

The six-storey brick building was erected in 1905 on the southern corner of Hafenstrasse and Neue Semlower Strasse on stilts.

The building application was submitted on February 20, 1905 by the Kleesattel & Lewerenz company. The conception and construction was carried out by the Teichen company from Stralsund. She reported the construction on December 9, 1905, ready for acceptance. In 1908 a loading bridge was added. The storage facility was used to store grain and other agricultural products. From the mid-1920s it was owned by the Koch & Poggendorf company. After the house was closed due to the poor condition of the floorboards at the end of the 1980s, VEB Industrievertrieb stored picture tubes here on the ground floor .

For a functional building, it is extraordinarily lavishly decorated with many historicizing friezes , pilaster strips and panels . A stair tower can be seen at the corner of the building . The representative character is underlined by a wide dwelling with a stepped gable facing Hafenstrasse.

The house is located on the outskirts of the city ​​area recognized by UNESCO as a world cultural heritage site of the “ historic old towns of Stralsund and Wismar ”. It is entered in the list of architectural monuments in Stralsund with the number 848.

The storage facility was extensively renovated from August 2007 to July 2010. Today it houses the energy supply for the Ozeaneum Stralsund and a restaurant ("Speicher 8").
