Life

As the son of a musical family, he learned to play the piano at the age of four or five ; he benefited from his brother's music lessons. In 1945 he was used as an errand boy with the occupation forces of the United States . He secured food for himself by playing piano music for the officers . He exchanged musical instruments on overland trips and was soon able to put together an orchestra. He made arrangements for orchestras such as Willy Berking , Franz Thon , Erwin Lehn and Kurt Edelhagen . He also composed music for cinema and TV films as well as for TV programs, including Commissioner Brahm.

Career

He had been orchestra conductor and arranger in the Feltz production since 1963 . In the 90s he celebrated success with the WDR - Fantasy Strings , which consisted of the violins of the Cologne Radio Orchestra (now WDR Funkhausorchester). From 1993 onwards, numerous recordings of jazz and pop songs were made in collaboration with WDR music editor Wolfgang Kischka and the radio station WDR 4 , arranged by Galatis and recorded under the musical direction of Ettore Stratta. The recordings were and are played in various WDR broadcasts, but especially in the broadcast Musik zum Träume on WDR 4. The records and CDs in this series were released under the title Fantasy Strings . The Fantasy Strings are firmly anchored in the musical tradition of classical string quartets and violin concertos through the golden age of Viennese music to the typical sound of a Mantovani or Helmut Zacharias . Another essential distinguishing feature from other productions of orchestral pop music with strings is the subtle jazz harmonic that pervades all recordings of the Fantasy Strings equally.
