Hagia Sion

Hagia Sion ( Greek Holy Zion) was a Byzantine church on Mount Zion in Jerusalem .

The Hagia Sion was around the year 415 under Bishop John II. As a five-nave basilica built. In the same year, as a result of a vision by the monk Lukian, bones found were attributed to the arch martyr Stephen . Already on December 26th, 415 , the feast of King David and his brother James , the relics were transferred to Hagia Sion .

The church is at 560 / 565 resulting mosaic of Madaba recorded in Jordan, but was already in the year 614 by the Persian king Khosrow II. Destroyed. During the construction of today's Hagia Maria Sion , one came across its foundations and those of other churches.
