Josef Brinkhues

Josef Brinkhues (born June 21, 1913 in Aachen ; † June 7, 1995 ) was a German clergyman and the seventh bishop of the Old Catholic Church in Germany .

Life

From 1932 Josef Brinkhues studied at the philosophical-theological college in Frankfurt am Main . In 1934 he moved to Bonn to study Old Catholic theology . In 1937 he was ordained a priest and was then parish vicar , first in Blumberg , then in Mannheim . In 1938 he became a parish assistant in Essen . Brinkhues was accepted into the clergy in 1939 . During World War II he served as a sergeant and ROB in the medical service . From June 24, 1944, his job title was pastor.

On January 10, 1946, he was released from captivity . He then worked in Aachen and Koblenz . In 1947 he became pastor in Heidelberg and in 1964 vicar general . With 94 out of 151 votes he was elected bishop coadjutor with the right of succession in 1965. In 1966 he was ordained a bishop and took over the office of bishop. He retired in 1986.

He was married to Ilse Brinkhues, b. Volckmar (1923-2012).
