Live and act

Haila Mompié was born into an artistically gifted family: her father was a hobby singer, her mother a stylist. At the age of nine, she began her musical training in Santiago de Cuba , where she studied dance . Her unusually good voice caught the eye from the start. When she was 15 years old, she moved to Havana with her family , which interrupted her musical "career" for a short time. There she met the well-known Son singer Yaquelín Castellanos through her daughter in 1991 , who was enthusiastic about her singing talent and accepted her into her group “Septeto Tradición”, which was mainly dedicated to traditional Cuban music . She later performed in the cabaret "Las Avenidas" and became a member of the Habana Son group . With the Guajira Habanera project , she had her first foreign appearance in Mexico in 1994. In September 1994 she became a vocalist with the Bamboleo group , with whom she recorded two CDs and made guest appearances in various countries.

In 1998 she founded the group Azúcar Negra with the musician and composer Leonel Limonta . Together they had successful performances in Europe and Latin America. Her record became a hit on Cuban radio and television. The song Andar Andando developed into an anthem for young and old.

In 2001, Haila went on a solo path. Before that, she appeared as a soloist at various international events together with other Cuban, internationally known stars. In the following years she appeared as an interpreter on numerous CDs. The record La Rumba Soy Yo received the Grammy Latino .

Even as a soloist, her international success did not diminish. She has given concerts in various countries around the world, including the USA and Japan, where she recorded her live album.
