Architecture and history

The two-storey residential building Hainstrasse 12 of the courtyard standing on the street's eaves was built in half-timbered construction. After dendrochronological studies, the wood used was felled in the winter of 1588/89. The building is the second oldest preserved half-timbered house in the city of Burg after the house at Berliner Straße 38 . Other information indicates that the house was built around 1450, making it the oldest half-timbered house. The design of the facade shows a Renaissance ornamentation. The half-timbering on the courtyard side shows an older building tradition that was in use in the southwestern part of what is now Saxony-Anhalt since the first half of the 14th century.

The Handwerkerhof had house number 550 in the past. It was in operation as a tannery for a long time and, as the Albrecht company, was the last tannery in the city until its use was discontinued in December 1991. In 1993 the tannery was renovated as a technical monument. The headquarters of the Heimatverein Burg und Umgebung eV are located in the building

The Handwerkerhof is listed in the local monument register under registration number 094 05672 as a monument .
