Hooks (boxes)
The hook is the hit that is one of the most common hits in half-distance boxing . The arm is lifted from cover as smoothly as possible, with a slight incline of the upper body to the side. After this backward movement the stroke is executed.
Hooks can be placed with the slightly weaker leading hand or with the punch hand (left or right (sideways) hook). Is the uppercut (uppercut) meant this is explicitly designated as such. A vibrator, on the other hand, is a particularly long hook that is prepared by an arcuate movement (swinging) of the hand, which is intended to increase its intensity.
Basic execution
Ideally, the elbow should be kept at shoulder height and its joint should be at an angle of 110 degrees, so that the entire body weight of the person hitting sits behind the “lance” forearm . The hitting power comes less from the arm or the shoulder, but comes from the wrestling of the upper body combined with the extension of the boxer's leg .
The hook is particularly suitable as a knockout punch , as it comes from the side and thus can get past the cover of the opponent and hit the knockout points chin and temple . The hook can also be beaten to the body, evasive maneuvers such as the lower commuting where it is particularly effective an opponent's strike and a counter-ligand boxers allowed to take the opponent the air for his attack (blow to the solar plexus ( solar plexus )), or it even to incapacitate (liver hook).
In the long distance, the possibilities of using the hook are limited, it can only be used as a "swing arm" (the 110-degree angle of the elbow is increased in favor of the reach) or as a jumped-in hook (the boxer hits the hook with a quick forward movement, which is similar to the caulking step). The latter can have enormous punching power, but is also easy to counter.
