The Höhbergtal-Gerlingen flood retention basin of the Obere Lippe water association is located between Soest and Werl in the Soest district in North Rhine-Westphalia .

It is a dry basin without permanent stagnation, in which an unnamed body of water in the Gerlinger Grund is dammed by a 21 m high earth dam during flooding . There are three different data available for the storage space of the flood retention basin, ranging from 0.542 to 1.25 million m³.
