Solar plexus

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
For this representation of the solar plexus (yellow, in the middle of the picture) the stomach was separated from the duodenum (left of the middle of the picture). The severed stomach was folded up to the right. The liver was detached and folded upwards (left) with the attached gallbladder . The left kidney is shown on the right edge of the picture, the small intestine on the lower edge of the picture . At the top right of the picture, a part of the spleen can be seen between the stomach and the kidney .
The solar plexus (yellow, in the upper part of this figure) lies in the upper abdomen between the aorta (red) and the stomach , which was removed for this illustration. At the top of the picture, behind the solar plexus, the loin part of the diaphragm can be seen. Parts of the lumbar spine can be seen behind the aorta.

The solar plexus ( Latin: Plexus solaris ; English solar plexus ) is a network of fibers and nodes of the vegetative nervous system in the form of an irregular ring with rays. It lies between the breastbone and the navel at the transition between the thoracic and lumbar spine , in the depths of the upper abdomen between the stomach and the main artery . The main components of the solar plexus are two nerve nodes : the abdominal cavity ganglion and the upper viscera ganglion . The fibers are made up of sympathetic and parasympathetic parts. Various information and control impulses are exchanged between the brain stem and the abdominal organs, including the blood vessels of the abdominal cavity , via the solar plexus.

Attributions

In older writings, the solar plexus is also referred to as the abdominal brain ( Latin: cerebrum abdominale ) due to its function , to which feelings such as sympathy and a sense of community are assigned, as well as the seat of the part of the soul assigned to the unconscious . In Tantric Hinduism , one of the main chakras , the manipura , is assigned to the solar plexus due to its location just above the navel. In yoga , the position of the Manipura Chakra is also assigned to the region of the solar plexus. The dynamic stretching of the spine takes its starting point in certain yoga exercises precisely there, e.g. B. in Trikonasana or Paschimottanasana .

Violence

A firm blow in the region of the solar plexus can lead to dizziness , nausea or loss of consciousness , with previous illnesses in exceptional cases up to reflex death . These symptoms can be explained in part by severe irritation of the fibers of the vagus nerve and the major and minor splanchnic nerves . The irritation of these nerves can cause vessels in the abdomen to widen, causing blood pressure to drop. The resulting reduced blood flow back into the heart can mean that there is no longer enough blood to supply the brain with oxygen, which leads to dizziness or unconsciousness. Some of the symptoms can also be explained as a result of the compression of the aorta associated with the stroke , which also causes short-term disorders of blood pressure regulation.
