Martin Trepel

Martin Trepel (* 1967 in Munich ) is a German hematologist and oncologist and director of the 2nd Medical Clinic and director of the Interdisciplinary Cancer Center at the Augsburg University Hospital .

Life

Trepel received his doctorate in 1995 on the subject of the morphological differentiation of monoaminergic neurons in vitro: influence of brain region, gender and gonadal steroid hormones at the University of Ulm , followed in 2004 by the habilitation on targeting cytoplasmic and membrane-bound proteins with randomized peptide banks at the Albert-Ludwigs-University of Freiburg . Then Trepel worked at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf as senior physician and deputy medical director in the 2nd Medical Clinic for Oncology and Hematology. From 2008 to 2018 he also headed the “Receptor Targeting” working group. From 2009 to 2014 he was scientific director and from 2012 to 2014 also acting medical director of the University Cancer Center Hamburg (UCCH). Since July 1, 2014, Trepel has been the successor of Günter Schlimok as chief physician and director of the 2nd Medical Clinic of the Augsburg Clinic and University Clinic and is director of the Interdisciplinary Cancer Center at the Augsburg Clinic. He lives in Hamburg and Augsburg.

Act

The scientific focus of Trepel's work lies in the identification of receptor proteins on the surface of the cell membrane of tumor cells , which could offer starting points for more targeted therapies for cancer and other diseases. The clinical focus of his work is on cancer in general, but also particularly in the area of ​​soft tissue and bone tumors (sarcomas), gastrointestinal tumors, lymphomas, leukemia and breast cancer. Trepel is also the author of a textbook on neuroanatomy , the first edition of which was published in 1995 and was published for the seventh time in 2017.
