Günter Schlimok

Günter Schlimok (* 1949 ) is a German hematologist and oncologist , professor and former chief physician at the Augsburg Clinic (today Augsburg University Clinic ).

Life

Schlimok studied human medicine from 1970 to 1976 at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich . After completing the medical state examination and obtaining his license to practice medicine, he did his doctorate in 1976 on the subject of “Comparative immunochemical protein studies in serums and tracheobronchial secretions in children with special consideration of immunoglobulin A”. In 1977 he began his internship at the 2nd Medical Clinic of the Augsburg Clinic , which he later moved to the Medical Clinic III of the Großhadern Clinic of the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munichcontinued. In 1983 he passed his specialist examination and in the same year became senior physician at the Augsburg Clinic. In 1988 he completed his habilitation on the subject of "Micrometastases of epithelial tumors in the bone marrow - immunocytochemical detection and in-vivo marking with the help of monoclonal antibodies" and was appointed senior physician a year later. In 1995 Schlimok became the chief physician of the 2nd Medical Clinic at the Augsburg Clinic, of which he was also the Medical Director from 2001 to 2003 . Upon reaching the official age limit, Schlimok resigned in 2014, and was succeeded by Martin Trepel . Since then Schlimok has been working as a contract doctor and attending physician at the Deaconess Hospital Augsburg . In 2017 he received the Bavarian State Medal for services to health and care .

Act

The clinical research focus of Schlimok was in particular the use of monoclonal antibodies for the treatment of hematological neoplasms . Schlimok is a member of various medical societies and is, among other things, President of the Bavarian Cancer Society. In addition, he is involved on a voluntary basis, for example as the patron of the “Augsburg against Cancer” foundation .
