Halat Ammar

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Halat Ammar ( Arabic حالة عمار, DMG Ḥālat ʿAmmār ) or Halit Ammar is a border town in the province of Tabuk in Saudi Arabia at around 750 meters above sea level. It is located on National Road 15, which connects the 440,000-inhabitant city of Tabuk with Jordan . Apart from the border crossing at al-Haditha ( Lage ) and that at al-Haql ( Lage ), this is the only highway that connects with the neighboring country to the north-west. The area around the village is completely uninhabited and due to the hot, dry climate, barren. The supply of sufficient water is a major problem in northern Saudi Arabia. According to a study by the Institute of Water Resources Management at the University of Hanover , the groundwater is withdrawn from the Dead Sea and could be depleted after 25 years.

The Hejaz Railway passed near the village, although it had only been in operation here for seven years. Instead, car traffic has become increasingly important. Halat Ammar lives from the customs station and the associated infrastructure, especially for truck drivers who usually have to stay here for a long time because of the customs clearance.

In a study published in July 2009, the German Aerospace Center (DLR) examined four possible 1,150,000 km² regions around Halat Ammar on which solar systems could generate an annual output of 123,300 TWh, in order to feed these into the European power grid with funding from the 7th Research Framework Program .
