Midway is a village in the Canadian province of British Columbia and is located in the Regional District of Kootenay Boundary . Immediately south of the community flows the Kettle River , which crosses the border with the US state Washington here.
history
The land of the present day location was divided into lots by the Midway Town Site Company , each of which sold for $ 100. Midway was originally called Boundary City and was later renamed by RC Adams. Between 1890 and 1899, the population peaked at 6,000 during the gold rush. In 1899 the place received a connection to the Canadian Pacific Railway .
The granting of local self-government ( incorporated as Village Municipality ) took place on May 25, 1967.
Demographics
The census in 2016 showed a population of 649 inhabitants for the municipality, after the census in 2011 still showed a population of 674 inhabitants for the municipality. Contrary to the provincial trend, the population decreased by 3.7% compared to the last census in 2011, while the provincial average increased by 5.6%. In the census period from 2006 to 2011, the number of inhabitants in the municipality had decreased by an above-average 8.5%, while the provincial average increased by 7.0%.
As part of the 2016 census, a median age of 54.2 years was determined for the municipality . The median age of the province in 2016 was only 43.0 years. The average age in the municipality was 60.2 years and 42.3 years in the province.

The place is administered by a mayor and a four-member city council that is elected for four years.
Attractions
The Kettle Valley Rail Trail , a hiking trail on the route of the former Kettle Valley Railway, begins in Midway .

In Midway there is a grass runway for small aircraft and the town is crossed in an east-west direction by Highway 3 , the Crowsnest Highway .
