Heike Matthiesen (born June 27, 1964 in Braunschweig ) is a German classical guitarist .

Biography and artistic work

Heike Matthiesen comes from a family of musicians. She received extensive musical training as a child and played the piano from the age of four.

At the age of 18 she took her first guitar lessons and just one year later she studied with Professor Heinz Teuchert at the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts . After two years of training with Professor Michael Teuchert, she passed the artistic maturity test with Thomas Bittermann . A few years as a master student of Pepe Romero followed. She also attended numerous master classes with Manuel Barrueco , David Russell , Roland Dyens (who dedicated one of his 20 letters to her), Alvaro Pierri , Leo Brouwer , Hubert Käppel and Oscar Ghiglia, among others .

During her studies, she worked as a permanent orchestral assistant at the Frankfurt Opera , where she played plucked instruments in operas by Mozart , Weber , Berg , Shostakovich , Donizetti and Rossini . Since 1997 she has also played regularly in various chamber music ensembles for the Villa Musica Mainz .

Heike Matthiesen mainly performs as a soloist with a focus on Spanish and German-language music, but also has French, Polish and South American music in her programs. Concerts have taken her to Japan, China, the USA, Russia, Bulgaria, Poland, Iceland, Austria, Denmark, France, Italy and Spain. A special focus in her work is the music of women composers ; Since spring 2016 Heike Matthiesen has also been a specialist in the guitar repertoire in the Archive of Women and Music . Heike Matthiesen plays a Gioachino Giussani 1990 Alsuhail and a Roy Fankhänel 2015 RF160 . Heike Matthiesen lives in Frankfurt am Main .
