Haldane Island

Haldane Island is an island off the George V coast in the Australian Antarctic Territory . It belongs to the Mackellar Islands off Cape Cape Denison in the Commonwealth Bay and is located southeast of Greater Mackellar Island .

They were discovered by participants in the Australasian Antarctic Expedition (1911–1914) under the direction of the Australian polar explorer Douglas Mawson . The island is named after one of the sled dogs on the research trip, who belonged to the team of the expedition member Belgrave Ninnis . The dog is named after the British politician Richard Haldane, 1st Viscount Haldane (1856–1928), British Minister of War from 1905 to 1912.
