Halde Ewald continuation

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The stockpile Ewald sequel is a slag heap of mining in walking distance to the inner city of Oer-Erkenschwick .

The 44.5 hectare and a maximum of 129 meters high dump was taken over by the Regionalverband Ruhr (RVR) in 2007 and expanded into a 47 hectare recreational area. On August 22nd, 2009 it was opened to the public on the occasion of the 110th anniversary celebration of the Ewald colliery .

The first section on the wooded west side was implemented as a qualification measure in cooperation with Vestische Arbeit, a consortium in the Recklinghausen district. A total of two and a half kilometers of hiking trails with a water-bound cover were laid out and benches were provided. Visual aisles on the heap provide views. A platform is equipped with natural stone seating blocks and can be used as a green classroom or for celebrations. The second plateau on the top of the dump is to be provided with an installation, the selection has not yet been made. There is access to the heap from the Ziegeleitor and from other inner-city streets.

The natural greening was supplemented with around 1,600 trees, including field maple and ornamental currant and various types of roses .

The investment costs, borne entirely from RVR's own resources, amounted to 150,000 euros up to the opening.

The further expansion is regulated by a cooperation agreement between the RVR, the city of Oer-Erkenschwick and the local parishes. The connection to the cycle path network through the König-Ludwig-Trasse, which is currently under construction, is planned.
