Halieis
Halieis (Ἁλιαί) was a Greek city in the Greek countryside of Argolis (Peloponnese).
The ruins of the place are opposite the modern tourist resort Porto Cheli on the slope of a hill that has been on the hill since the 7th century BC An acropolis was located. The place had a port (today because of the subsidence of the coast under water) and city walls. Around 470 BC Refugees from Tiryns have settled here . After Athens tried again and again to control the important port, the Athenians had to be allowed to use the port in 424/23. In the 4th century BC Like the other cities of Argolida, Halieis sided with Sparta . At the end of the 4th century the port and town were abandoned. A few remains can be seen today.
