Dieter Hennig (ancient historian)

Dieter Hennig (born May 19, 1940 in Tilsit ) is a German ancient historian .

After studying at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich , he was there in 1966 with the dissertation studies on land rent in the Ptolemaic-Roman Egypt during Siegfried Lauffer doctorate . After his habilitation at the University of Regensburg (1975), he was appointed adjunct professor there in 1982. Hennig was Scientific Director at the Commission for Ancient History and Epigraphy of the German Archaeological Institute . In 2005 he retired.

His main research interests include ancient city and road construction, property ownership and the surveillance of desert borders and caravan routes in Ptolemaic Egypt.
