Haliplus mucronatus is a beetle from the family of water treaders (Haliplidae).

features

The beetles reach a body length of 4 to 4.3 millimeters. Her body is colored rust-red in one color, glossy on the top and roughly structured in dots. The upper wings have strong rows of dots, the spaces in between are provided with fine dots. The epipleurs also have a series of rough points. The head of the animals is large and significantly wider than half the pronotum base. The pronotum has no longitudinal lines at the base and has slightly rounded sides.

Occurrence and way of life

The species is mainly distributed in the Mediterranean from Portugal to Dalmatia and Greece and in North Africa. However, it is also found in Western Europe, France, western Switzerland, Austria, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany and England. The animals live in clean, stagnant and slowly flowing waters.
