History and architecture

Interior of the Hallohkapelle

The small, plastered rectangular hall stands on an elevation in the former parish of Calle. It was built in 1686 and expanded to the west in 1936. A wooden porch stands in front of the portal . The painted wooden ceiling in the old part of the interior shows God the Father surrounded by angels with instruments of passion , as he commands death and the devil. The work is from the end of the 17th century. The pilaster-framed wooden altarpiece with a crucifixion image was created around 1700. The wooden pietà was carved at the beginning of the 18th century. The pilgrimage chapel is dedicated to the painful Mother of God , the chapel is frequented by pilgrims, especially during Lent.

On the east side of the chapel is the linden tree , a natural monument with a trunk diameter of 1.0 m. The tree was designated as a natural monument (ND) in 2008 with the Meschede landscape plan by the Hochsauerland district under no. 2.2.23 .

On the last weekend in July 2014, a thick branch broke off the linden tree. After the branch was broken off, the church council of St. Severinus Calle demanded that the linden tree be felled because of the traffic safety obligation . The Hochsauerlandkreis as the regulatory authority did not agree to the felling. Two tree inspectors independently checked the linden tree for possible dangers. Both rated the linden tree as stable. Shortly afterwards, the tree was pruned and safety systems were installed in the crown in order to improve the stability and break resistance of the natural monument. According to the district, these measures had nothing to do with the branch break in July. The order for the securing work had already been given in April. The church council hung up notes stating that entering the site was "at your own risk". According to the landscape law, the owner, here the parish of St. Severinus Calle, is responsible for traffic safety. Since the linden tree has been designated as a natural monument by the district, the district has to pay for the care of the tree.
