Halls

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Halls is a brand name for cough drops and lozenges from the international food company Mondelēz International .

history

In 1893, the Hall brothers founded the Halls company in Great Britain to manufacture soap and jam . Soon they began producing and distributing confectionery such as hard candy and traditional British specialties such as lime and peppermint chocolates. In 1930 the Halls patented the formula they had invented for Mentho-Lyptus, a combination of menthol and eucalyptus . The Hall brothers started producing one of the most popular cough drops. Today, Halls is not only used as a cough drop, but also as a breath freshener. In some parts of the world, such as Brazil , Argentina , Peru , Colombia and the Philippines , Halls is offered as a menthol-containing candy and is not considered a cough remedy . The company now produces many different varieties, including a line of vitamins, breath freshener and sugar-free varieties. In Great Britain, Halls recently removed all labeling of the active ingredient against coughs in the product description on the packaging and referred to it as "Extra Strong Original Flavor Hard Boiled Sweets".

The company has been part of the Cadbury Group since 2003 . In 2010, Cadbury and with it Halls were taken over by Kraft Foods and since their name was changed in 2012 under the umbrella of Mondelēz International.
