The Collared Warrior Bird ( Chauna torquata ), also called Tschaja , is a species from the family of the warrior birds , which are among the closest relatives of the duck birds .
features
The Collared Warrior Bird is a large, chicken-like-looking bird with fairly high legs. The head, which ends in a slightly curved beak reminiscent of a chicken beak, as it is often found in this family, is the main contributor to the resemblance to chicken birds . There is only a hint of webbed feet between its long toes, due to the similarities in the muscle system and bone structure, this species, like that of the hornbill, is classified in the vicinity of the duck birds. The plumage of the collar-warrior bird shows brown, gray and black tones. It is named after the black ring on the neck, which is set off by a narrow white band. A sharp spur on the bend of the wing, reminiscent of the ancient bird Archeopteryx , is cleverly used for defense.
Occurrence
The collared warrior bird is native to Bolivia , Peru , Argentina , Paraguay , Brazil and Uruguay . It prefers to live in water-rich grasslands as well as on forest lakes and in swamps.
Reproduction
The large nest is built from plant material near the shallow water. At the age of 60 to 75 days, the young birds are able to fly.
