Martha Langbein

Martha Langbein , married Pensberger (since 1962) (born May 22, 1941 in Heidelberg ), is a former German athlete who won the silver medal in the 4 x 100 meter relay at the 1960 Olympic Games in Rome (44, 8 s; together with Anni Biechl , Brunhilde Hendrix and Jutta Heine ). She started at these games for the Federal Republic in a joint German team.

She also won the silver medal with the 4 x 100 meter relay (under the name Martha Pensberger) at the European Championships in 1962 (44.6 s, together with Erika Fisch , Maren Collin and Jutta Heine ). In the 100-meter individual race of the European Championships, she was eliminated in the intermediate run.

She also started in the 1964 Olympic Games in the 4 x 100 meter relay, which finished fifth.

Martha Langbein grew up in Neckarsteinach , where her father was a locksmith in a shipyard. She belonged to USC Heidelberg until 1961 , with which she won the German championship title in the 4 x 100 meter relay in 1960. In 1962 she moved to TSV 1860 Munich and trained with Uli Jonath . In addition to the championship title in 1960, she was twice German runner-up in the 4 x 100 meter relay (1962, 1963) and once third (1961). In the individual disciplines of the German Athletics Championships , she achieved two third places over 100 meters (1960 and 1964) and a runner-up over 200 meters (1964).

In her active time she was 1.60 m tall and weighed 56 kg. She was awarded the Silver Laurel Leaf for her success in athletics .
