HamSphere

HamSphere Virtual Transceiver System.

HamSphere is a subscription- based Internet service that simulates amateur radio communication over VoIP connections over the Internet. The simulator enables licensed radio amateurs to communicate with one another using a simulated ionosphere . The program was designed by the Cypriot radio amateur Kelly Lindman (callsign 5B4AIT).

The system enables realistic worldwide connections between radio amateurs and radio enthusiasts. In general, it is similar to other VoIP applications (e.g. Skype ), but with the addition of features such as channel selection through tuning, modulation, sound effects and shortwave propagation simulation.

Before using the system, it is necessary to validate an amateur radio callsign. The HamSphere system checks the callsign specified by the user on various callbooks before his callsign is added to the list of validated users.

The system can also be used without a verified amateur radio license and has a callsign generator that issues an unofficial HamSphere callsign . This user then has a restricted right to use various virtual shortwave bands.

The software can be used by PC users on the basis of Microsoft Windows , Apple OS X or Linux with Java (programming language) . Mobile editions for iPhone , iPod touch , iPad and Android devices are also available. The software is available for download as a free trial for 30 days, but an annual subscription is required after the free trial has expired.
