Hamar Jernstøberi
Hamar Jernstøberi og Mekaniske Verksted or HamJern is a former industrial company in Hamar in Norway , which was divided into several companies under the Furnes-Hamjern Holding . The original foundry was founded by Espern on May 21, 1895, between the railway site and Mjøsa , and quickly became known for its foundry products, ovens and stoves . The range of production was later expanded to include cast products for the trade, railway material and agricultural machinery such as harrows , hay tedders and woodworking machines .
history
From 1901, the focus of production was placed on locomotive construction, after an order for ore freight cars had previously been successfully completed.
Around 200 steam locomotives were built by HamJern , including some of the Dovregubben , the largest steam locomotive in Norway. Electric locomotives were also produced later.
HamJern was long one of the largest employers in Hedmark and in 1943 employed over 400 workers and 75 employees. During the 1960s and again in the 1980s the factory buildings were modernized and around the same time Munck Cranes took over part of the workshops to produce ship cranes. In 1984, sheet metal processing was taken over by Ameco.
