The Hammer-Hü-Laufen is a carnival custom in Hamburg - Vierlande and in Hamburg- Marschlande . It is practiced in Kirchwerder and Ochsenwerder .

During Shrove Tuesday, children go from house to house with linen bags and wooden spoons or hammers to get sweets. You knock with small wooden hammers or the like. on house doors or wooden boards attached there.

song lyrics

The expression Hammer-Hü is derived from the song the children sing when knocking:

Hammer, hammer, hü,
grab mi 'n lüttje Klü!
Lot mi nich long,
because ick mutt gahn again!
A Huus
lives again de Snieder, a
Huus eighth
lives de Slachter, a
Huus in de Mitt
lives de (thick) Smitt.
Een Huus am Enn, you
grabbed a pin! "

If it is not opened, or if there is no "Klüü" (sweets), the children shout angrily:

"Witten Tweern, swatten Tweern,
disse Olsch, you don't like it!"

There are fixed dates for the Hammer-Hü-run:

On Shrove Tuesday ( Shrove Tuesday), after school, the children start east of the Kirchwerder Landweg.
On Ash Wednesday the part of Kirchwerder follows west of the land route.
Finally, on Thursday morning, the children run in Ochsenwerder. In her verse it says "Hammer-Hüt", correspondingly rhymed with "Klüt". The primary school students have a day off.
