HaModia

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

haModia ( Hebrew המודיע, translated " The Announcer ") is a Hebrew-language daily newspaper that is published in Israel . A daily English edition is also published in the United States , United Kingdom and Israel. The US edition was the first Jewish - ultra-Orthodox newspaper that has ever been published in English in the United States.

The editorial guidelines reflect the ultra-orthodox view. However, the editorial guidelines in the US are more moderate than those in Israel. For example, the US edition allows images of rabbis and advertisements with Internet addresses to be printed, while the Israeli edition does not. A weekly edition, also in English, is published in London (mainly for the European market).

In some currents of ultra-Orthodox Judaism, the use of the Internet is only allowed for business purposes and reading secular newspapers is avoided. For supporters of these groups, newspapers like haModia are the only source of news. As is common in ultra-Orthodox Judaism, no photos of women are published in haModia as it is considered indecent.
