Marine radio manual
The Marine Radio Manual was a service aid for German marine radio stations .
It contained and explained the international and national regulations for the maritime radio service and the special radio services for maritime shipping . The last editions (5th edition 1990, OCLC 784714911 , 6th edition 1994) were published together with the Deutsche Bundespost and the Federal Ministry for Post and Telecommunications .
The manual had to be carried with all German marine radio stations. It was divided into 16 chapters, which named the various procedures and regulations, as well as numerous annexes with examples and tables.
In summary, it contained information about
- Equipment requirements, marine radio certificates and identification of radio stations
- Types of radio such as telegraphy, radiotelephony and radio telex
- Distribution and use of transmission frequencies and transmission channels
- Operating procedures in traffic with coastal radio stations or other marine radio stations via medium, border, short wave and VHF as well as via satellites
- Telegram traffic and billing, the unit of account gold francs
- Listening, listening guards
- Measures in emergencies, handling of emergency, urgency and security shipments
With the introduction of the global distress and safety radio system GMDSS ( Global Maritime Distress and Safety System ), the manual is no longer relevant and no longer has to be available as a service aid on German ships that are required to be equipped according to SOLAS . As part of the GMDSS, the English-language Maritime Manual (Manual for Use by the Maritime Mobile and Maritime Mobile Satellite Services) published by the ITU must be carried on board along with other service aids on these ships.
