Radio service

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A radio service ( English radiocommunication service ) comprises the entirety of radio applications or uses, the intended use of which has an essential common characteristic, in accordance with the definition of the regulations for radio service (VO Funk) of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). He can u. a. serve to transmit, transmit or receive radio waves for the purposes of telecommunications or radio astronomy . Radio services can be used purely for civil, military or for authorities and organizations with security tasks (BOS).

Unless otherwise stated, each radio service named in the VO Funk refers to terrestrial use, whereby the VO Funk regulates the electromagnetic spectrum from 8.3 kHz to 3000 GHz as agreed and allocates it to radio services worldwide.

Categorization

A categorization of different radio services takes place both by the ITU and by the national authority for the regulation of radio usage (in Germany the Federal Network Agency / Frequency Management ).

Differentiation of assignment to radio services

The radio services are differentiated into primary and secondary radio services . In the plans and tables concerned, these are usually identified in a separate column using different spellings as follows:

  • Primary radio service: Spelling in capital letters, e.g. B. FIXED WIRELESS SERVICE
  • Secondary radio service: normal spelling, e.g. B. Location radio service.

A primary radio service is a radio service whose radio stations in the relevant band can request protection against interference from radio stations of secondary radio services, even if these frequencies have already been allocated. Protection against interference from radio stations of the same or a different primary radio service can only be requested by the radio station to which the frequency was allocated earlier.

A secondary radio service is a radio service whose radio stations are not allowed to cause interference with the radio stations of a primary radio service, nor can they require protection against interference from such radio stations, regardless of when the frequency assignment is made to radio stations of the primary radio service. However, you can request protection against interference from radio stations of the same or another secondary radio service whose frequency allocation takes place later.
