The Earth exploration ( English earth exploration satellite service ) is a radio service between earth stations and one or more space stations , which may include radio links between space stations and in which:

  1. Information about the properties of the earth and natural phenomena thereof, including data about the state of the environment, are obtained with the help of active sensors or passive sensors that are on board earth satellites ,
  2. similar information is obtained with the aid of probes located in aircraft or on the surface of the earth,
  3. this information can be transmitted to earth stations belonging to the same radio system , or
  4. the probes can also be queried.

This radio service can also include the feed connections required for its performance.

Active sensors receive information by sending and receiving radio waves , passive sensors by receiving radio waves of natural origin.

The weather radio service via satellites ( English meteorological-satellite service ) also belongs to this radio service.

Frequency assignments

The radio service is assigned frequency ranges from 1215 MHz to 252 GHz, with the assignment being either on a primary or secondary basis. Primary radio services have protection against interference from radio services with secondary allocation in the relevant frequency band. Most belts also specify whether active or passive sensors are used there.

Weather satellites also broadcast on 137 and 400 MHz.
