The University of Wakayama ( Japanese 和 歌 山 大学 , Wakayama daigaku , short: Wadai ( 和 大 )) is a state university in Japan . It is located in Wakayama in Wakayama Prefecture .
history
The university was founded in 1949 through the merger of the three state schools:
- the normal school Wakayama ( 和 歌 山 師範学校 , Wakayama shihan gakkō , founded 1874),
- the youth normal school Wakayama ( 和 歌 山 青年 師範学校 , Wakayama his shihan gakkō in Iwade , founded in 1919), and
- the Wakayama School of Economics ( 和 歌 山 経 済 専 門 学校 , Wakayama keizai semmon gakkō , founded in 1922).
Initially there were the following faculties: Liberal Arts and Economics. In 1966 the Faculty of Liberal Arts was changed to the Faculty of Education. At first, each faculty was on its own small campus. In 1986, today's Sakaedani campus opened, and the faculties moved there. Two faculties have been added to the new campus: Systems Engineering (1995) and Tourism Science (2008).
The former Fukiage campus (pedagogy, 34 ° 13 ′ 23.7 ″ N , 135 ° 10 ′ 20.6 ″ E ) was the former seat of the Kishū-Han school , and today the grounds attached to the pedagogical faculty are located there - and middle schools and the prefectural museum. The Prefectural Library and Adult Education Center of Wakayama University are located on the former Takamatsu campus (Economics, 34 ° 12 ′ 26.2 ″ N , 135 ° 10 ′ 11 ″ E ).
