The Handley Page HP75 Manx was an experimental British flying wing from 1943.
history
The HP75 was designed by the chief designer of the aircraft manufacturer Handley Page Gustav Lachmann . The aircraft without a horizontal stabilizer was designed as a middle decker with rudders arranged at the wing tips. The prototype was delivered as early as 1939, but it was still too heavy for flight tests. The nose landing gear was rigid, but the main landing gear wheels could be retracted. Two 140 hp de Havilland Gipsy Major II engines were used, which drove two pusher propellers.
After the weight was reduced, the hull had to be re-glued as the old glue had peeled off. The first attempts at taxiing were made in 1942, when the front rigid landing gear broke once. The first flight took place on June 25, 1943. A total of 17 flight hours were completed by November 1945.
Then on December 2, 1945, there was a fatal accident involving the prototype of the Handley Page HP68 Hermes. The two pilots of the Manx died. The program was canceled shortly thereafter.
