Handleyomys is in Colombia living rodent species from the group of New world .
The genus was only established in 2002 and includes two species that have so far been classified in other genera, but were always considered problematic there:
- Handleyomys fuscatus , which was previously incorporated into the Andean mice ( Aepeomys ), and
- Handleyomys intectus , a former member of the rice rats ( Oryzomys ).
They are dark-colored animals, the top of which is black-brown and the underside is dark-gray. Both inhabit the Andes , they live in the mountains in Colombia and are distributed up to 2800 meters altitude. Otherwise little is known about the way of life.
According to the IUCN, both species are not endangered.
