Towel dispensers are used to portion towels in washing facilities used by many people, such as public toilets and washrooms , which can be paper or cloth towels .

Paper towel dispenser

There are essentially two systems for paper towel dispensers:

  • Folded towel dispensers that contain individual paper towels folded in zigzag or layered folds, with the removal of one towel always following the next.
  • Roll dispensers in which the towels are rolled up as endless material on a roll and are only separated at a perforation or by means of tear-off teeth when they are removed. Depending on the dispenser system, the paper can be removed from the outside or, after removing the sleeve, from the inside.

There are versions of the roll dispensers which, driven by a motor, dispense a towel when the hand is held in front of a sensor surface on the dispenser.

Cloth towel dispenser

Cloth towel dispensers are only available as roll systems, in which an approx. 30 cm long piece of cloth is unrolled from a roll when actuated and, after a short waiting time, is automatically rewound onto a second roll. This so-called retractive dispenser thus keeps an unused, clean piece of cotton towel ready for each user. With the two-chamber system, clean and used cloth are separated. Approx. 40 m of dry towel on a roll is common here, and a cleaning and exchange service for the towel rolls is usually offered for the dispensers. As with the paper towel dispensers, there are fully mechanical and electrical dispensers that are prone to failure and often do not work properly.
