Hans-Dieter Möhring (born January 4, 1943 in Goslar ) is a Brigadier General a. D. of the army of the Bundeswehr . He was last from October 1996 to December 31, 2001 Deputy Commander in the staff of the Defense Area Command V / 10th Panzer Division in Sigmaringen .

Training and first uses

As part of his school education, Möhring first attended the Schiller School in Goslar from 1949 to 1953. He then switched to middle school for boys, which he graduated from secondary school in 1959. In 1958 he was one of the winners in the Heyne arithmetic. From 1959 he attended the modern language branch at the Ratsgymnasium Goslar . After graduating from high school, he was drafted into the Bundeswehr as a temporary soldier in 1963 and was trained as a reserve officer of the tank troops at Panzerbataillon 14 in Hildesheim until 1965 . He completed this with his promotion to lieutenant on January 1, 1965. After further commitment, he completed the officers' courses I and II at the Army Officer's School I in Hanover from 1965 to 1966 . Further assignments as platoon leader, S2 / S1 officer and company commander in Panzerbataillon 14 in Hildesheim followed until 1973. In autumn 1973 he was transferred to Oldenburg as chief of the staff and supply company of the 314 tank battalion and served there until 1974.

Service as a staff officer

From 1974 to 1976 he completed the 17th general staff course of the army at the command academy of the Bundeswehr in Hamburg and was promoted to major in 1975. After completing the course in 1976, he was first employed as a G3Op of the 3rd Panzer Division in Buxtehude and from 1977 to 1979 as a G4 staff officer of the 8th Panzer Brigade in Lüneburg. Assignments as planning staff officer in the security policy and armed forces department at the command academy of the Bundeswehr and G3 staff officer in Panzerlehrbrigade 9 in Munster joined them until 1982. From April 1, 1982 to March 30, 1984, he was battalion commander of the 23rd Panzer Battalion in Braunschweig. After that he was a consultant in the command staff of Army III 1 in Bonn until 1987, dealing with the operational planning and management of the German and allied forces deployed in the area of ​​the Army Group Central Army Group CENTAG and Franco-German military cooperation. From September 1987 to September 1989 he was employed as Chief of Staff of the 10th Panzer Division in Sigmaringen and promoted to colonel on January 1, 1989. He then headed the exercises department at the headquarters of the CENTRAL ARMY GROUP in Heidelberg from 1989 to 1991 as Assistant Chief of Staff. From April 1991 to September 1996 he returned to the leadership academy of the German Armed Forces in Hamburg, where he was used as commander of the General Staff and Admiral Staff courses of the German Armed Forces with German and international participation. During this time he was also a student at the Federal Academy for Security Policy in 1992 and a participant in the Higher Command & Staff Course at the British Staff College in Camberley, England in 1995 .

Service as a general

On October 1, 1996, Möhring took over the duties of deputy commander and commander of the military area troops in military area V (Baden-Württemberg) with the rank of colonel and was also general for national and territorial tasks in the military area. In this position he was promoted to brigadier general in 1999. He was retired on December 31, 2001.

Private

Möhring is married and has a son and a daughter. He lives with his wife near Lüneburg. Since 2002 he has been organizing a joint lunch table in Hamburg, where former generals and admirals of the Bundeswehr from the greater Hamburg area meet once a month to eat and exchange ideas.
