Hans-Dieter Schmid (born June 12, 1941 in Bödigheim ) is a German historian .

Life

Hans-Dieter Schmid studied history, English and political science in Tübingen and Bangor / Wales and received his doctorate in Tübingen in 1973. Since 1964 he has been with Christel, geb. Engel, married with whom he has three children.

In 1975 he came to Hanover , where in 1989 he was managing director of the interdisciplinary working group on regional and local history at the University of Hanover . In 1994 he became a professor for modern history and history didactics at the historical seminar of the University of Hanover.

He researched the Anabaptist movement, history lessons in the GDR, the Nazi era, the history of the Jews, Sinti and Roma, and festival culture.
