Hans-Jörg Czech (* 1966 in Osnabrück ) is a German art historian and museum director.

Life

He studied art history , recent German literature and folklore in Münster, Vienna and Bonn. After a traineeship at the Staatliche Museen Kassel , he worked from 2000 a. a. Assistant to the director, exhibition curator and project manager for the permanent exhibition at the German Historical Museum in Berlin and from 2007 founding director of the city museum of the Hessian capital Wiesbaden . From 2013 to 2015 he was director of the Altona Museum , where he a. a. was responsible for the exhibition "350 Years of Altona" and the realignment of the Jenisch House .

Since January 1, 2016 he has been director of the Museum of Hamburg History . He also coordinates all collection matters within the Hamburg Historical Museum Foundation and is particularly responsible for the new SHMH central depot. According to information from the Senate, the Osnabrück-born Czech played a key role in the preparations for the construction and content of the new German Harbor Museum . As the successor to Börries von Notz, Czech took over the overall management of the museum foundation as sole director on July 1, 2019.

He is also a member of the board of the Association for Hamburg History.
