Hans-Jürgen Koch (financial broker)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hans-Jürgen Koch (born October 23, 1948 in Offenbach am Main ; † October 3, 2008 in Tsumeb , Namibia ) was a German financial broker who brokered short-term loans between German municipalities in the 1990s. In doing so, he set up a pyramid scheme and redirected credits to his own accounts. There was a loss of 40 million euros.

According to the ruling of the Federal Court of Justice from 2003, a reversal had to take place between the affected communities.

When the system was exposed, Koch fled to Namibia in 1999 , where he was imprisoned from 2002. A request for extradition was not granted. In mid-2008, Koch was acquitted by the Windhoek Supreme Court and released with immediate effect.

A few months after his release, Koch was married for the third time. He died in October 2008 of complications from lung cancer. His ashes are said to have been scattered on his former hunting and guest farm La Rochelle . His twins from their second marriage had no contact with him from his escape from Germany until his death.
