Hans-Joachim Beckmann

Hans-Joachim Beckmann (born January 12, 1946 in Rodenkirchen ) is a German politician . As a member of the SPD , he was part of the 12th, 13th and until Sep. 2001 the 14th electoral term to the Lower Saxony state parliament . he was a member of the European Parliament from 1988 to 1989.

After attending elementary school, Beckmann began an apprenticeship as a metal aircraft maker. After completing his training, he started his professional career in aircraft construction at the United Flight Technical Works. He was with the German Air Force for four years and graduated as a mechanical engineer. Later he took up a job as a designer in aircraft construction.

He was a member of the works council and, since 1978, of the general works council at the former Deutsche Aerospace Airbus GmbH (now Airbus) in Lemwerder . Beckmann became a member of the SPD in 1973. He was chairman of the SPD sub-district Wesermarsch from 1984 to 2004 and is now honorary chairman. Member and for several years deputy chairman of the SPD district executive committee Weser-Ems and in 2000 and 2001 vice chairman.

Beckmann became chairman of the supervisory board of the Wesermarsch GmbH housing association and was a member of the supervisory board of Deutsche Aerospace Airbus GmbH, Hamburg. In 1976 Beckmann became a councilor and since 1986 mayor of the Lemwerder community . From 1981 to 2001 member of the district council of the Wesermarsch district. As a member of the Socialist Group, Beckmann became a member of the European Parliament from 1988 to 1989. In the 12th, 13th and 14th electoral periods Beckmann became a member of the Lower Saxony State Parliament from June 21, 1990 to October 2001.

He was the full-time mayor of the municipality of Lemwerder from November 1, 2001 to March 31, 2013. In 2004 he was awarded the Cross of Merit on Ribbon of the Federal Republic of Germany.
