Hans-Joachim Lenz (* 1947 ) is a German social scientist . He is considered to be a co-founder of the critical research on men in Germany and was best known for his publications on gender-specific violence research.

Life

Under the impression of the various emancipation movements of the 1960s, Lenz began to think about male role models and the possibilities of their changes. As a student he founded male university groups. In the 1970s he offered groups of men as adult education courses . He began to focus more scientifically on gender research , especially the topic of masculinity . In the 1980s he developed "one of the first approaches to gender-sensitizing adult education with men and for health professions."

Lenz was co-author of the pilot study Violence against Men in Germany, published in 2004 on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Family Affairs, which was also published as a book in 2007.
