Hans-Josef Niederehe

Hans-Josef Niederehe (born May 28, 1937 in Cologne ) is a German Romance studies and linguist.

life and work

Niederehe studied geography and Romance studies at the University of Cologne and received her doctorate with a dissertation on street and path in Gallo-Roman toponomics (Geneva and Paris 1967). He completed his habilitation at the University of Hamburg with the text Die Sprachaufführung Alfons des Wise. Studies on language and History of Science (Tübingen 1974, Spanish: Alfonso X el Sabio y la lingüística de su tiempo , Madrid 1987) and held the Chair of Romance Linguistics at the University of Trier from 1974 to 2004 .

Niederehe was co-editor of the journal Historiographia linguistica. International journal for the history of the language sciences and Romance studies in the past and present 1–15 (1995–2009), as well as editor or co-editor of numerous linguistic anthologies or files from national and international linguistic congresses. His most important work is the five-volume bibliography of Spanish linguistics from its beginnings to 1900. In 1916 he was awarded an honorary doctorate from the Rey Juan Carlos University in Madrid .
