Hans-Martin Nau

Hans-Martin Nau (born January 16, 1937 in Wegeleben near Halberstadt ) is a German opera singer ( bass ).

Life

Nau studied from 1955 to 1960 at the "Franz Liszt" University of Music in Weimar. He then made his debut in Mozart's Così fan tutte in 1960 as Don Alfonso at the Vogtlandtheater Plauen , where he became a member of the ensemble for three seasons. In 1963 he moved to Halle an der Saale and stayed there until 1969, later also in a second contract next to Berlin until 1975.

Nau had also been at the Komische Oper Berlin since 1969 (with Walter Felsenstein ), where he stayed until 2002 during the artistic direction of Joachim Herz and under the director Harry Kupfer , after which he had a guest contract with the Komische Oper.

Nau's most important roles include his father Schlendrian (coffee cantata Schweigt stille, does not chat by Johann Sebastian Bach ) and the Polydarte in GF Handel's Giustino , as well as Doctor Bartolo in Kupfer's Figaro production and in the Barber of Seville .

In his younger years he also sang Figaro, Leporello, Don Alfonso, Papageno and Publius ( La clemenza di Tito ) in Mozart's operas .

In addition, Nau Rocco was in Fidelio , van Bett in Tsar and Zimmermann (most recently in Stralsund and Greifswald ), Sparafucile in Rigoletto , Kezal in the Bartered Bride , Warlaam in Boris Godunow , Prince Gremin in Eugene Onegin , Tsar Saltan in the opera of the same name by Nikolai Rimski-Korsakow as well as Colline in La Bohème and Ochs von Lerchenau in Rosenkavalier , the father in Benjamin Britten's The Prodigal Son in Ossiach .
