Hans-Ulrich Hengst

Hans-Ulrich Hengst (* 1955 in Bad Lippspringe ) is a former German politician (non-party). From May 2010 to May 2018 he was mayor of the city of Fürstenwalde / Spree .

Life and education

After attending a commercial school and training in administration at the city of Bad Lippspringe, Hengst began studying for high-level non-technical administration at the Soest study institute . He obtained his diploma from the Administration and Business Academy Ostwestfalen-Lippe. He then worked in various positions at the Bad Lippspringe city administration.

Professional and political activity

After the fall of the Wall in the GDR, he was a part-time lecturer at the Brandenburg Study Institute from 1992 to 1996. In 1994 his career began with the city of Fürstenwalde / Spree as a treasurer and first alderman and (qua office) as deputy mayor. In the mayoral ballot on March 14, 2010, Hengst was elected to succeed Manfred Reim ( FDP ) with 59.1% of the valid votes for a term of eight years. He took office on May 6, 2010. On October 17, 2017, Hengst announced his renewed candidacy for the Fürstenwalder mayoral election on February 25, 2018. He was supported by the Fürstenwalder SPD, the party Die Linke and the FDP as a joint mayoral candidate. The AfD also spoke out in favor of Hengst's re-election. However, he lost this election against the Fürstenwalder city councilor Matthias Rudolph already in the first ballot with only 34.5 against 52.2 percent of the valid votes. Hengst's term of office as mayor ended on May 5, 2018.

Criminal investigation and civil lawsuit over the sins-swap deals

In October 2019, it became known that the Potsdam public prosecutor had initiated criminal investigations against Hengst and his predecessor Manfred Reim on suspicion of infidelity in a particularly serious case. The investigations are currently (07/2020) still ongoing. In addition, the city council of Fürstenwalde / Spree decided in November 2019 against ex-mayor Manfred Reim (FDP), against ex-treasurer / ex-mayor Hengst and ex-treasurer Dr. Eckhard Fehse ( SPD ) has filed a lawsuit to assert "damage worth millions" resulting from the sins-swap transactions concluded in 2007.

Volunteering

From 2002 to 2019 Hengst was President of the FSV Union Fürstenwalde . He resigned after a dispute between the FSV Union and the city of Fürstenwalde about funding and subsidies for the association.
